Mr. Ramesh Kalyanaraman is the Executive Director of Kalyan Jewellers. His journey started from the 2nd showroom of Kalyan Jewellers. A Phd in Marketing, he looks after Sales & Marketing for Kalyan Jewellers. His understanding of the business and the category as a whole came from the fact that he started learning everything from a shop level.

Within a few years, he realized that Kalyan Jewellers would need to do take some bold steps. The company took the bold decision to only sell BIS Hallmarked gold – at a time when other jewelers were selling non BIS jewellery, at lower prices. To make consumers aware, he decided to communicate the message in a clear manner. And thus was born the messaging of trust and transparency. . Now Kalyan Jewellers is the Gold Standard for Trust and Transparency. Campaigns like Fight against Impure Gold, BIS Hallmark Gold, My Gold My Right and Rate Tags became the industry norm which even competitors started copying.

He felt the need to penetrate deeper into markets to be closer to customers. To achieve this objective, he started service outlets under the name and style of “My Kalyan” within a fixed radius around our shops which made it easier for our customer to pre-book their future purchases in an era of increasing gold prices. It was a path-breaking concept, something that changed the industry called ‘gold retailing’ which was a product industry to ‘gold retailing services’, a service industry.

Ramesh continues to drive innovations in marketing even today – taking bold and strategic steps to expand into North and West India and in global markets like the UAE.

In Dec 2013, Kalyan Jewellers entered UAE and opened 6 showrooms on the same day.
