Alan Quartly

Alan Quartly is the South Asia Bureau Editor for BBC News. He is based in New Delhi and is responsible for BBC News coverage across India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal.

He began his career working as a producer for Worldwide Television News and Associated Press Television News.

Quartly began working for the BBC in 2000 when he was hired as a producer for the Moscow bureau to cover news from across the region and abroad including the conflicts in the North Caucasus and the Gujarat earthquake.

He was part of the first BBC team to cross into Afghanistan in 2001 and spent much of the autumn of that year covering the campaign to oust the Taliban.

In 2004 he served as Europe producer for the BBC's Brussels Bureau, covering the EU and major news stories across Europe.

Quartly was appointed Bureau Editor in Moscow in 2005. During that time he covered the Russia-Georgia war and was assigned temporarily to East Asia, to lead BBC coverage of the 'Red Shirt' protests in Thailand.

In 2007, Anurradha launched an umbrella brand Broadcast 24 under which she launched 'News 24'; a 24-hour News channel that is today the fastest growing Hindi news channel in the country. In March 2008, under the same brand she launched India's first Bollywood news channel E 24. Anurradha heads a successful radio network Dhamaal 24- a 24-hour radio network on air now at 9 stations across the country. Besides this, she continues to run the very successful production arm of B.A.G. Films Studio 24. She also reaches out to aspiring media professionals with The International School of Media and Entertainment Studies (iSOMEs), a school dedicated to teach and train media professionals of tomorrow. She has kept pace with technology and has her channels present on cyber space through her web network B.A.G. Convergence. Ashok Venkatramani

A mechanical engineer from Mumbai and MBA from IIM, Ahmedabad, Ashok started his career with Unilever, having been with them for 19 years, working on the foods and personal care side of the business in sales, marketing and general mgmt roles. He was the Vice President and Business Head - skincare for Unilever in India before moving into his current role of the CEO - MCCS – An Ananda Bazaar Patrika company.

He is also a Treasurer and Director on the board of the News Broadcasters Association and chairs their HR and Sales Sub committees .

Atul Phadnis

Atul Phadnis is Founder, Chief Executive at What's-On-India and is also currently in an Entrepreneurial venture in partnership with INTEL Capital,Sequoia,Capital & Nexus VP to create India's largest Consumer TV Search and EPG powerhouse in a swiftly transforming and digitalizing TV industry environment.Atul has also served as Vice President of TAM Media Research.He Launched and headed the S-Group (Strategic consulting arm for TAM India). Barun Das

B V Rao

Jawhar Sircar

Jawhar Sircar is an Indian civil servant of 37 years experience and is presently the Chief Executive Officer of Prasar Bharati, Broadcasting Corporation of India, that supervises the two national public service broadcasting networks of India, namely, All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan (DD).

He has been Secretary in the Government of India (Ministry of Culture) from November 2008 to February 2012 and was responsible for introducing several new schemes and reforms in the culture sector. He was awarded the first ever British Museum Medal for piloting museum reforms in the country. Prior to this he has handled different portfolios in finance and industry for almost 18 years, both in the Federal Government and in the State of West Bengal. He was the moving force behind setting up the Kolkata (Calcutta) International Film Festival, the Kolkata Book Fair, and several other mammoth ventures.

Jawhar Sircar studied mainly in Kolkata, though he had stints at the British Universities of Cambridge and Sussex as well as in New York. He has two Master's Degrees in different subjects, i.e., Sociology (with Social Anthropology) and Ancient Indian History and Culture. He has carried on research and publications on cultural, historical and anthropological subjects for several years.

Roop Sharma

Mrs. Roop Sharma joined the Cable TV Industry in 1990, as the first woman cable operator of India and the first on in North India. From the very beginning, she took upon herself the task of consolidating and organizing the nascent industry as the General Secretary of Delhi Cable Operators Welfare Association. In 1993, she was elected the founder President of Cable Operators Federation of India (COFI), the apex body of last mile cable operators.

Her first major achievement was the recognition of Cable TV as a Small Scale Service and Business Enterprise by the Ministry of Industries in 1994. The next one was coaxing the government introduce Cable TV Act of 1995 to regulate the industry. In 2002 she lobbied hard for introducing addressability through CAS and now her focus is to get the digitalization implemented fast keeping interest of last mile operators intact.
