Alan Quartly

Alan Quartly is the South Asia Bureau Editor for BBC News. He is based in New Delhi and is responsible for BBC News coverage across India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal.

He began his career working as a producer for Worldwide Television News and Associated Press Television News.

Quartly began working for the BBC in 2000 when he was hired as a producer for the Moscow bureau to cover news from across the region and abroad including the conflicts in the North Caucasus and the Gujarat earthquake.

He was part of the first BBC team to cross into Afghanistan in 2001 and spent much of the autumn of that year covering the campaign to oust the Taliban.

In 2004 he served as Europe producer for the BBC's Brussels Bureau, covering the EU and major news stories across Europe.

Quartly was appointed Bureau Editor in Moscow in 2005. During that time he covered the Russia-Georgia war and was assigned temporarily to East Asia, to lead BBC coverage of the 'Red Shirt' protests in Thailand.

Mrs. Roop Sharma joined the Cable TV Industry in 1990, as the first woman cable operator of India and the first on in North India. In 1993, she was elected the founder President of Cable Operators Federation of India (COFI), the apex body of last mile cable operators.
