It’s been consumer first for RS Sharma since he took over as the Chairman of TRAI in 2015. Under Sharma issues such as user data, privacy, security and the contentious net neutrality are being looked at from the consumer’s standpoint and in line with the requirements of the Indian market. Even in the broadcast space, TRAI’s notifications of regulations governing the broadcast sector, that was issued earlier this year, mandated several consumer-friendly moves which if accepted mandates broadcasters to offer pay channels on a standalone basis with separate bouquets for free-to-air (FTA) and pay channels.
